The Canadian RI Fundamentals course is for Advisors, Investment Specialists, and individual investors who want to enhance their knowledge of responsible investment (RI). It provides learners with practical knowledge of Canada’s RI marketplace. The course equips investment professionals with the knowledge they need to discuss environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues with Canadian retail clients, and the tools to offer advice about retail RI products in Canada.
Canadian RI Fundamentals is a completely self-paced, online course – you decide when you start and when you finish. The course can typically be completed within 5 to 10 hours. After enrolling, you have unlimited access to this course until you complete it.

Once you have studied the material, you will take a multiple choice exam composed of 40 questions. You must score a minimum of 75% to pass the course. The course content provides an overview of the Canadian responsible investment marketplace; it does not require you to perform calculations, nor does it require advanced training in financial analysis. The course is suitable for anyone who is interested in learning more about responsible investment in Canada.

Earn a Financial Designation
Investment professionals who successfully complete the Canadian RI Fundamentals course are eligible to receive the Responsible Investment Specialist (RIS) designation. Recipients receive a wall certificate, listing on the RIA website, and the right to use the RIS logo and designation behind their names.
