Market Open | Responsible Investing: What’s Next for Market Development?

8:00AM-9:30AM, TORONTO | Hosted by Neo Exchange

Responsible investing (RI), which refers to the incorporation of environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors into investment decisions, has made significant gains in recent years, now accounting for approximately 38% of AUM in Canada and 26% globally. While we must celebrate these achievements, much work remains to be done to enhance current RI practices and to enable full market participation.

This panel of experts will explore the following questions and more:
  • Implementation: What additional information/resources would be helpful for practitioners of responsible investment?
  • Policy: What public policies or regulations could enhance RI market growth and development?
  • Demand: What is needed to further stimulate demand for RI in both institutional and retail markets?
  • Exchanges: How can stock exchanges play a role in RI market development?

The world of investing is changing. Investors today are faced with an unprecedented task of deciding how to manage their portfolios in the face of an increasingly complex and shifting global landscape. From environmental issues such as climate change and water scarcity, to the rise of populism and policy deregulation, the need to manage environmental, social and governance (ESG) risks has never been greater.

Webinar: Investing in Equality and Emerging Themes – Gender Diversity, Electric Vehicles and Cyber Security

2:00PM-3:00PM, ONLINE | Hosted by Evolve Funds

Gender diversity, automobile innovation and cyber security are three topics that are intersecting in Canadians’ daily lives. Research has shown that gender diversity leads to better corporate performance; the automobile industry is poised to undergo the biggest transformation in a lifetime; and cybercrime continues to increase globally affecting millions of people.

In this webinar, we will be joined by Diana van Maasdijk, co-Founder & Executive Director at Equileap, who will share the firm’s extensive Gender Scorecard which ranks companies based on 19 criteria of gender balance and gender equality. Equileap was created to accelerate progress towards gender equality and cut the 118 years the World Economic Forum currently estimates it will take for equality to be achieved at present rates of change. We will also be joined by Raj Lala, President & CEO of Evolve Funds, who will provide an overview of the emerging electric vehicle and cyber security trends and how Canadian investors are now able to invest in these topics through three first-to-market ETFs.

WISE, 30% Club Canada & CIBC: Investors’ Role in Diversity

5:00PM-8:00PM, TORONTO | Hosted by WISE, 30% Club & CIBC

Research by CIBC “The Harsh Truth” has found that greater diversity is associated with stronger results. Since 2008, S&P/TSX members with Women on Boards outperform those that do not. However, corporate Canada has been slow to improve female representation at the highest levels. Last year, a review by the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) found that just 12% of board seats were occupied by women.

30% Club Canadian Investor Group recently published a joint Investor Statement calling on companies to do more to bridge the diversity gap, and that investors should help drive this effort.
