As Vice President & Head of Research for 1832 Asset Management, Dan is responsible for overseeing fundamental research and professional development initiatives across equity and credit teams. Dan also serves as Chair of 1832’s ESG Investment Committee and has had a leadership role in the evolution of 1832’s responsible investing initiatives, corporate policies and strategies. Dan’s joint role as head of research and lead on ESG initiatives continues to drive ever-deeper integration of material ESG factors, along with an expanding breadth of ESG-related tools and data, to inform investment decisions across all of 1832’s mandates. Dan joined the Canadian Coalition for Good Governance’s Environmental & Social Committee in 2019, where he helps support engagement and guidance for corporate boards on best practices.
Daniel has over 16 years of investment experience. He joined Dynamic’s Fixed Income team in 2009 after gaining valuable experience as an analyst with a boutique asset manager, where he was responsible for the risk management and oversight of the firm’s investment portfolios. In 2012, Dan was promoted to Portfolio Manager and had portfolio management responsibilities with a focus on credit investing across a variety of mandates. In 2016, with the creation of the Credit Research Team, Dan was appointed to Head of Credit Research and was responsible for the fundamental credit research and analysis across the 1832 Asset Management fixed income teams. In 2019, Dan was promoted to Vice President & Head of Research.
Prior to joining the industry in 2005, Dan was a Commonwealth Scholar and earned a Master of Arts in Global Political Economy from the University of Sussex, where his graduate research focused on the risks that credit default swaps and other financial derivatives presented for the global financial system. He also earned a Master of Laws degree from the University of Toronto, with a specialization in Innovation and Technology law.
