Mercer Joins the RIA as an Associate Member

September 6th, 2018

Toronto – September 6, 2018 – The Responsible Investment Association (RIA) is pleased to announce that Mercer has joined the RIA as an Associate Member.

“We enthusiastically welcome Mercer as a member of the Responsible Investment Association,” said Dustyn Lanz, CEO of the RIA. “Investment consultants are key catalysts for the adoption of responsible investing, so we’re very glad to see Mercer’s increasing commitment to RI in Canada. We look forward to working with them to drive the integration of environmental, social, and governance factors into Canadians’ investment decisions.”

The RIA is Canada’s industry association dedicated to advancing responsible investment, which refers to the incorporation of ESG factors into the selection and management of investments. RIA membership has grown rapidly in recent years as investors increasingly seek investments that align with their values and manage exposure to ESG risks and opportunities.

“Mercer’s history in responsible investment dates back to 2004, and we know first-hand the value of collaborative efforts to advance ESG integration,” said Karen Lockridge, a Principal on Mercer’s Responsible Investment team.  “We are excited to join the RIA and we look forward to continued collaboration with the RIA and fellow members to advance sustainable investing in Canada and abroad.”

Mercer established a Responsible Investment team in 2004, which currently has 15 full-time equivalent professionals and is supported by a wider group of ‘ESG Champions’ within Mercer. The team works with clients, consultants and analysts to integrate ESG, stewardship, sustainability and climate change considerations into investment processes and research.
