Russ Lazaruk

I believe that successful investing is more than just a numbers game. As a leader in both the non-profit and business sectors, I have learnt that building and growing a sustainable enterprise requires the integration of financial & economic considerations with environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues.

My investment career began over 25 years ago after a diverse background of farming, forestry and soldiering. I have worked with boutique investment dealers, a major Canadian bank owned dealer and a Global Investment Bank. I am currently a Managing Director & Portfolio Manager of a multi-family office and Investment Counsel. Previously I have served as a branch manager and associate director responsible for teams of advisors which added to my broad career experience and skills. Nevertheless, the well-being of my clients is, and always will be, my primary focus.

All of my clients benefit from a systematic process that allows me to assess their needs and build a plan that will guide them to their goals. In doing this I take into account their personal values that may affect their investment choices. The investment process is no less rigorous and integrates financial analysis with ESG considerations.

I hold the Chartered Investment Manager (CIM) and Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute (FCSI) designations from the Canadian Securities Institute. I have also earned the Responsible Investment Specialist (RIS) and Responsible Investment Advisor Certification (RIAC) from the Responsible Investment Association and PRI Academy.

Work aside, my community volunteering keeps me active as chair/director (current & past) of a number of Greater Victoria organizations including Camosun College, Garth Homer Society, Duke of Edinburgh Awards Society, the Saltspring Island Advisory Planning Commission (Islands Trust), and Greater Victoria Public Library. I am also a Rotary Club member.

Janine Guenther

I have over 30 years of experience in the financial services industry. I hold a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Manitoba along with the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), and Chartered Market Technician (CMT) designations.

Professionally, I am a member of CFA Institute and the CMT Association. My volunteer roles with CFA Institute include past president of CFA Vancouver, past President’s Council Representative (PCR) for Canada on the global Board of CFA Institute, Exam Grading, Standard Setting, the Nominating Committee and the Disciplinary Review Committee. For the CMT Association, I am a past member of the Curriculum Committee.

I was a proud volunteer for the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics serving as the timer for the Figure Skating events. This role arose from a 25-year volunteer career in Figure Skating as an internationally ranked judge. In my community, I am currently a citizen member of the District of West Vancouver finance committed and a board member on the West Vancouver Community Centres Society. I am involved in volunteer activities at the school our children attend and the sports that they play.

One of the accomplishments in my life that I am most proud of is training and running a marathon in the year that I turned 50. I have always been athletic but never a runner (I am still not a runner) but was able to make a few lifestyle choices and learned how to make this happen! I am proud finisher of the New York Marathon and a few half marathons and 10K’s since then!

Peter Bennett

Peter Bennett is a certified financial planner, licensed in insurance, mutual funds, and labour sponsored funds. He has almost 40 years of experience in fee or commission based planning. Peter has been part of the Legacy Wealth Coach network since 2001. His firm uses a values-based planning approach designed to answer three questions: What does it mean to be financially independent? What is an appropriate legacy for my family? Is my estate arranged in a manner consistent with my values? Part of the values conversation explores the use of RI as a criteria for investment decisions. Peter obtained his RIS designation in 2019.

Peter joined the Estate Planning Council of Toronto in 2011. He is a member of the Toronto Chapter of the Canadian Association of Gift Planners and is a graduate of their Advanced Gift Planning Course in 2007 and 2024. He also spoke at the 2009 and 2015 Freedom 55 Financial Summit in St. John’s Newfoundland and Toronto. He has spoken widely to religious, industry, and other organizations on the benefits of planned giving. He has also presented to groups on the subject of responsible investing.
