Feeling shut down when you ask your advisor about the environmental record of companies you invest in? Been told you can’t make money investing responsibly? Uncomfortable about your hard-earned money being used to undermine the things you hold most dear?
We can help.
Responsible investing is not a sideline for Stephen Whipp Financial – it’s the only way we do business. We were early adopters and remain one of the few retail advisor teams in Canada to offer this level of dedicated knowledge and expertise.
We weigh more than short-term financial performance when assessing potential investments. We look for liabilities such as human rights violations, unethical governance or unsustainable environmental practices. These are risks to be factored into investment choices, along with the financials of a company. We look for strengths in the same areas, as we see them as indicators of a company’s long-term viability and sustainability. It’s a disciplined strategy that’s about managing your money without compromising your values.
This is activist investing with a long view. To preserve and protect the things most important to you. Not undermine them. Connecting the dots between what your money is doing and what you value for yourself, your family, the broader community and the planet.
Our business is rooted in impact and legacy. I invest with a purpose, and our team is perhaps best known for our institutional, “smart money” approach to investment management. We work with executives, families and private foundations across Canada and the USA to build, preserve and protect client capital.
If our purpose-led investment approach is our why, then our client servicing is our how. Your satisfaction is of the utmost importance to us. We pride ourselves on being proactively accessible to the individuals we work with 24/7, so you can focus on furthering your success and building your legacy.
For us, delivering outstanding service is as paramount as outstanding investment results.

Rick Morson has been an Investment Advisor on Vancouver Island for over 30 years. He has been proud to call the Comox Valley home for the past 22 years. Rick believes in contributing both personally and professionally to the remarkable Comox Valley.
As an Investment Advisor, Portfolio Manager Rick specializes in income oriented investments and has a diverse portfolio of private and public-sector clients. He takes an educational approach to advising his investors and clients. Over three decades of experience has taught Rick that the most successful investors are those who participate in the process and take advantage of learning opportunities.
As Rick designs a plan based on your values, he also applies those principles to your investments by offering responsible investment options. Responsible investment is the integration of environmental sustainability, social responsibility and corporate governance factors (ESG) into the selection and management of portfolios. It’s about managing risk to long-term shareholder and stakeholder value by analyzing ESG factors alongside of traditional financial ratios and research.
Rick believes responsible investments will allow his clients to leave a greater legacy for their children and grandchildren. It also provides him, in his role as your Investment Advisor, an opportunity to advise, educate, and leave the world a better place.
I believe that successful investing is more than just a numbers game. As a leader in both the non-profit and business sectors, I have learnt that building and growing a sustainable enterprise requires the integration of financial & economic considerations with environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues.
My investment career began over 25 years ago after a diverse background of farming, forestry and soldiering. I have worked with boutique investment dealers, a major Canadian bank owned dealer and a Global Investment Bank. I am currently a Managing Director & Portfolio Manager of a multi-family office and Investment Counsel. Previously I have served as a branch manager and associate director responsible for teams of advisors which added to my broad career experience and skills. Nevertheless, the well-being of my clients is, and always will be, my primary focus.
All of my clients benefit from a systematic process that allows me to assess their needs and build a plan that will guide them to their goals. In doing this I take into account their personal values that may affect their investment choices. The investment process is no less rigorous and integrates financial analysis with ESG considerations.
I hold the Chartered Investment Manager (CIM) and Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute (FCSI) designations from the Canadian Securities Institute. I have also earned the Responsible Investment Specialist (RIS) and Responsible Investment Advisor Certification (RIAC) from the Responsible Investment Association and PRI Academy.
Work aside, my community volunteering keeps me active as chair/director (current & past) of a number of Greater Victoria organizations including Camosun College, Garth Homer Society, Duke of Edinburgh Awards Society, the Saltspring Island Advisory Planning Commission (Islands Trust), and Greater Victoria Public Library. I am also a Rotary Club member.
